The Allocator
A computer which controls the allocation of hospital care, the Allocator is able to make life-or-death rulings over patients. Despite having this power, the Allocator makes decisions mathematically rather than morally. It calculates a person's use to society and derives a "Treatment Coefficient", which dictates the medicine to which the patient is entitled. The Allocator also stores information on the patient's ability to learn skills, and so cannot be fooled into allocating care on a falsely-claimed attribute. However, because the Allocator identifies patients by reading blood factors, it can be easily fooled into believing one patient to be another.
Axum 's Nanovirus
Realising that the Collective could detect the interlink frequency that allows drones to access Unimatrix Zero, Axum developed a nanovirus designed to mask the biochemical signature of the recessive mutation which enables the interlink. Building on this work, Voyager's doctor modified the nanovirus to nullify the cortical inhibitors of the drones, allowing them to retain memories of Unimatrix Zero after the end of the regeneration cycle, thus sowing the seeds of resistance within the collective. However, the plan to implant the nanovirus within the collective called for direct contact with a central plexus, the heavily guarded device which links every Borg vessel to every other Borg vessel.
Chroniton-Infused Serum
As an antidote tot eh state of temporal flux into which Chakotay's body was induced when Voyager encountered a specific spatial rift, the Doctor devised a unique solution, a serum infused with chroniton particles. Chronitons are subatomic particles that transmit temporal quanta, and the Doctor used this knowledge to develop a serum which could restore Chakotay's entire body to a state of temporal stability. Interestingly, the serum gave anyone inoculated with it the ability to cross temporal boundaries with impunity. In addition, the Doctor was able to develop a version of the serum which could restore temporal stability to an entire ship via bio-neural circuitry.
Holodeck Psychological Effects
Although generally acknowledged as safe technology both as a research tool and an entertainment environment, holodecks and holosuites have been proven to cause problems for individuals who are prone to certain regressive behaviours. Those of a timid disposition who are nervous of making friend in the "real" world can find solace within the holographic environment to an extent where they will spend every free hour immersed in holodeck fantasies. This phenomenon, know as "holo-addiction", affects personnel from all rank, and given the extensive the justifiable use of holodecks as work tools, is often not identified until it is in an advance phase.
Neurogenic Interfaces
The neurogenic interface in the Starship Alice provides the pilot with a direct mental link to the ship's systems, allowing them to react directly to the pilot's thoughts, making Alice quicker and more maneuverable than even the Delta Flyer. Although advanced, this technology is not unknown elsewhere in the galaxy: Jem'Hadar attack ship pilots wear a set which allows data from the ship's sensors to be relayed directly to the brain. In most cases, neurogenic technology has a detrimental effect on the user: Jem'Hadar visors give humans a splitting headache, while Alice 's interface has been known to lead to eventual cerebral haemorrhage.
The Phage
Even worse than leprosy on planet Earth, the disfiguring disease, Phage, has plagued the Vidiian people for centuries. Obsessed with prolonging lives instead of living them at whatever level possible, their medical teams will pillage organs and skin from other living beings, with no conscience at all. They have discovered that Klingon DNA is useful to them and, in the past, have tortured B'Elanna Torres by splitting her into two halves: one all human part and one all Klingon part.
Surgical Alterations
Surgical alterations have been made to various humanoids in order to make them appear to be of another race. Seska's choice to look Bajoran was of her own volition but others have been altered against their will. Captain Picard was assimilated by the Borg in 2366 and became, temporarily, Locutus. Deanna Troi, Picard's Counselor, was forced to pose as a Romulan intelligence officer in order to survive her kidnapping. On Stardate 41775.5, Riker was fitted with a breathing gill in his neck to give the appearance of having been taken over by an alien parasite. Kira Nerys was given a Cardassian face and substituted for a missing daughter in a family when Cardassians were trying to identify a traitor. A terrifying experience, it tested her powers of belief in herself to the limit. Surgical alterations were made out of kindness to Worf's brother Kurn and his memory erased to enable him to start a new life.
Vaadwaur Bio-Pods
Powered by a central reactor using an efficient process to draw energy down from the planet's geothermal core, the Vaadwaur Bio-pods were designed to keep individuals in physical and mental stasis for varying periods of time. Although those whom U.S.S. Voyager encountered meant to remain in stasis for only 5 years, their 892 year sleep is testament to the solidity of the bio-pod construction. Once within a bio-pod, the state of stasis can be described as being like a simple night's sleep, although it has not yet been ascertained whether this induced stasis triggers the dream process which occurs in natural sleep patterns.
The Vidilian Phage
One of the achievements the Think Tank claim to have made is the curing of the Vidiian phage. The Vidiians are a humanoid species native to the Delta Quadrant. Once known as a society of educators, artists and explorers, they were stricken two millennia before by a terrible disease known as the phage, which destroyed the organs of their bodies. The Vidiians survived only through the widespread use of organ transplantation. Although Vidiians relied heavily on organs from dead bodies, their needs were so great that they captured individuals of other species to serve as involuntary organ donors. Because of the debilitating nature of the disease, the Vidiians often used healthy captives as slaves to perform hard labour, prior to killing them for organ harvesting. The Vidiian Sodality is renowned for its work in sophisticated medical technology to make extensive interspecies transplants possible.
