Main Engineering is located on decks 10 & 11. It is the section of the USS Voyager NCC-74656 which supplies power to the ship's systems, including the warp engines. It is also the place where the ship's most knowledgeable engineer works when systems is needed repair, the Chief Engineer, B'Elanna Torres.
It is of a long, narrow room with two levels; the ground floor being deck 11. On deck 10 is a gallery to the high-ceilinged ground floor section. The dominant feature of Main Engineering is the warp core which extends from deck 10 down to the bottom of the ship and is located at the far end of the room from the entrance. It runs vertically through Main Engineering and is a slim, translucent cylinder. Surrounding the warp core on both levels are thin handrails with attachments of controls, instruments and displays.
The ground floor level comprises of an open space and self-contained work stations and consoles. The central area of this room is left open and doesn't contain free-standing tables or desk consoles. In the front right of the warp core of the lower level is a small office area slightly recessed from the rest of the room. This area includes three self-contained, seated consoles. Two face the wall with display screens at desk level and the third is a freestanding console facing outward into the main area.
On each side of the entrance are two further self-contained consoles, both are two further screens at desk level and on the walls.
The higher level, Deck 10 is accessed through small, open, internal lifts which travels between the upper and lower levels; located on the lift of the warp core. This level also has the warp core running through it containing a further two, smaller, duty consoles on each side of the warp core; all four are operated in a standing position. The upper galleries are open natured giving engineers working there a clear view of the lower section of Main Engineering.
Warp Core
The warp core extends above and below Main Engineering but these are the only two levels on which it is exposed to view.
Safety Rails:
A narrow red handrail surrounds the upper gallery, providing safety for the engineers working in this area.
Clear Space:
The gallery along the back wall contains on duty stations but provides access between the two side galleries.
Entrance:
There are two doors. One of them a turbolift at the far end of the area. To the side (entrance end) Small, self-contained offices to side of the warp core provide a measure of privacy from the rest of the room.
Wall Consoles:
(top level) The wall consoles on the upper level are operated by duty engineers who are required to stand at their posts.
Internal Lift:
A small, simple lift links the upper and lower levels from inside Main Engineering. It provides quick and easy access between the two levels.
