Voyager's crew is placed in mortal danger when an angry and powerful Kes returns to her old ship, determined to punish her former crewmates by delivering them into the hands of the Vidiians, a diseased race who harvest the body parts of their victims.

When Voyager finds a way to communicate with Starfleet regularly, the Doctor is dismayed to learn that his creator, Lewis Zimmerman, is terminally ill with no hope of a cure. Believing that his Delta Quadrant experience can save Zimmerman, the EMH has his program transmitted to the Alpha Quadrant, where he finds his "father" less than welcoming!
