The Voyager crew are shocked when a crewmate killed in an attack years before returns bizarrely form the dead as a member of an alien race. Especially affected is Harry Kim, who rekindles his intimate relationship with the deceased despite her deep physical and emotional changes.

A series of mishaps and pranks lead the people of the imaginary town of Fair Haven to suspect that their Voyager friends are in fact beings from a spirit world. Dispatched to deal with the holograms improbable awareness. Paris & Kim soon find themselves captives of a holographic mob.
